SYMPTOMS OF DENGUE FEVER

There are many different symptoms which you can recognize to know when you have been biten by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and are in danger of getting Dengue Fever.

The incubation period for Dengue Fever, between the time of exposure and the onset of the first symptom, ranges from 3 to 14 days. In most cases, the first symptoms will appear within 4 to 7 days. 
 
First, is a sudden onset of fever from 104 - 105 degrees Fahrenheit, which can last from three to seven days.

Then, you will have an intense headache, which is usually felt behind the eyes. The headache can also be so intense that you may have to go to the hospital.

You may also have muscle and joint pains in your arms and legs, fatigue, nausea, swollen lymph nodes, vomitting, dehydration and a loss of appetite.

When Dengue Fever becomes more severe, Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Shock Syndrome can develop causing bleeding, blood plasma leakage and circulatory failure. 

With Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever and Shock Syndrome you can develop rashes on the face, neck or arms. These rashes may be huge like the one in the picture above, or may appear like a regular rash.

The small red spots in the rash are called petechiae and are caused by broken capillaries. Some people have also experienced heavy bleeding from the nose or gums which are caused by these broken capillaries.
