DENGUE FEVER

Dengue Fever, also known as "breakbone fever," is an infectious tropical disease that is caused by the dengue virus. It is a RNA virus, which is in the same family as the Yellow Fever virus, West Nile virus and Tick-borne Encephalitis virus.

There are many symptoms that can occur when you have Dengue Fever. These symptoms include:
fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, as well as a morbilliformskin rash. In severe cases, the disease can develop into a hemorrhagic fever, which consists of bleeding, low blood platelet level and blood plasma leakage or dengue shock syndrome, which can cause circulatory failure. Dengue Fever can also affect other body systems. A spread of the virus can lead to an infection of the brain or damage and failure of the liver.

Dengue Fever
is transmitted by
mosquitos called Aedes aegypti, which can be found in tropic and subtropic regions like Indonesian Archipelago into Northern Australia, South and Central America, Southeast Asia and Sub-Sub-Saharan Africa.

These mosquitoes like to bite most of the time during the day, but have been known to bite at night. Aedes aegyptis can usually be found hiding inside homes or near dwellings in urban areas.

There are different species of mosquitoes in the Aedes aegypti family called Aedes Albopictus, Aedes Polynesienis and Aedes Scutellaris. One single bite from any of these mosquitos can cause you to develop Dengue Fever and become infected with this terrible virus. These mosquitos can cause four different types of infections. An infection with one type of mosquito can usually give you
immunity to that type for life, but only short-term immunity to the other viruses. As of yet, there are no vaccines to prevent Dengue Fever. Prevention is sought by reducing the number of mosquitoes and their habitats, which will limit the exposure to getting bit by these mosquitos.

Dengue Fever is a horrible disease that has to be taken more seriously by people who are visiting foreign countries where it exists. The Medical Association has seen a big increase in the number of world travelers who are getting this disease and dying.
